I am Frankie Elouise (she/her), a trans-feminine multidisciplinary artist based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary, AB). Specializing in large-scale, narrative-driven figure paintings, my work explores themes of gender identity, societal constructs, and the complex intersections between personal and collective experiences. My artistic journey began in tattooing, where I co-founded a studio that offered a safe, inclusive space for contemporary, non-traditional work. While tattooing allowed me to explore my creative identity, painting has become the medium through which I investigate deeper questions of what it means to belong.
In my recent practice, I experiment heavily with colour and abstraction, finding new ways to convey emotions through body language and environment. My work is inspired by my relationships, personal growth, and experiences that may feel mundane in the moment but are often powerful representations of self and society. I aim to create narratives surrounding my figures that are relatable and humanizing for viewers to connect with and to understand myself on a personal level.
Ultimately, my goal is to offer meaningful trans representation, prompting viewers to critically engage with their perceptions of gender and its intersections with broader societal structures. Through exhibitions, public art, and a focus on narrative-driven storytelling, I aim to spark thoughtful dialogue and create space for new possibilities of identity within contemporary society.
